Course Description
In this class we will gain in-depth knowledge of various complex Power BI features and functions. One key topic is the use of DAX functions such as CONTAINSSTRING and CONTAINSSTRINGEXACT. These functions check whether a specified substring exists within a text column, with the exact match feature of CONTAINSSTRINGEXACT ensuring case sensitivity for more precise searches.
Another powerful tool covered is the creation of KPI visuals using Unicode characters. This technique enhances the visual appeal and clarity of key performance indicators, enabling users to convey data insights more effectively with symbols like arrows or checkmarks. The course also delves into the process of creating Control Charts, an essential visualization for tracking process stability over time and detecting any significant variations in data trends.
We will implement Dynamic Variables for adjusting moving averages in real-time, allowing data models to evolve based on current parameters. Advanced Time Calculations, including calculating the number of minutes between two time points, and formatting the result to display in the most appropriate manner for reporting and analysis, will be covered today.
A focus on Year-Over-Year analysis will enable us to create a measure that shows the same week from the previous year, giving deeper insights into yearly data trends. The course will also cover how to generate a 12-month running total, which is useful for tracking cumulative data over the past year.
Advanced DAX functions such as FILTER and SELECTCOLUMNS will be explored for creating new tables derived from existing datasets. These functions allow for more advanced data shaping and manipulation. Finally, the Power BI Decomposition Tree visual will be introduced. This powerful feature enables users to break down their data by different dimensions, offering a more granular, interactive analysis of the factors contributing to the overall result.
By the end of this course, participants will have developed a solid understanding of advanced Power BI techniques and be able to apply these methods to create dynamic, insightful reports and dashboards.
