Course Description

Learn to use the Microsoft Access database system to keep track of inventory, update mailing lists, and manage information files. Master the skills necessary to plan and design a table, as well as add, change, and delete data. Learn how to perform queries on single and multiple tables to find and display data. Discover how to generate simple forms and reports to access or print out the information that you need. Additional topics include global changes, sorting data, date arithmetic, modifying the table structure, and database management.

In this course, you will learn to: 

  • Navigate through an Access database by finding, opening, and closing database objects and locating the tools you need to work with these objects. 

  • Work with tables, including inserting, editing, and deleting records; finding data; and modifying table design. 

  • Create filters to view data that match certain criteria. 

  • Create queries using comparison operators, wildcards, and logical operators. 

  • Plan for and create tables, considering basic design principles. 

  • Work with date data, including understanding different date formats and establishing date criteria in queries. 

  • Create queries that return data from multiple related tables. 

  • Perform calculations in queries. 

  • Set up and run action queries to update, delete, and append tables and create new tables from query results. 

  • Create basic forms and reports. 

  • Import, export, and link tables in different file formats and database systems. 

  • Manage a database by copying, renaming, and deleting objects.

Experience with Windows.
