PG531 - Introduction to Java Programming
Course Description
This course introduces Java, one of today’s most popular programming languages. Learn to design, write, compile, and run basic Java applications that incorporate fundamental programming concepts and accepted programming techniques. Learn to declare and use variables of different data types to store information in your programs. Practice using control structures, such as if statements, switch statements, and loops, to control the flow of your applications. Additional topics include relational and logical operators, String and Math methods, and arrays.
In this course, you will learn to:

Learn about the history, features, benefits, and practical applications of the Java programming language.

Use Java’s input and output functions, so users can enter data and see the results.

Understand basic concepts of object-oriented programming and how they apply to your work in Java.

Use Java’s Software Development Kit to compile and run the applications you write during class using the Eclipse IDE.

Practice declaring and using variables of different types.

Understand the use of logical and relational operators in your Java programs.

Work with conditional statements, such as if and switch, to make decisions in your programs.

Write while and for loops to repeat programming statements efficiently.

Learn about Java’s application programming interface (API) and how to use documentation to look up API features.

Use some of Java’s built-in methods to manipulate numeric and string data.

Prerequisites
This course is intended for students with very little programming experience. Introduction to Programming Concepts is recommended as a prerequisite for students with no exposure to programming concepts.Applies Towards the Following Certificates
