Foundational Skills Using Excel is an introductory series designed to help you build a strong foundation in Microsoft Excel, a vital tool for data analysis and business operations. The program begins with navigating the Excel interface, moves through essential functions and formulas, and advances to data organization and basic analysis techniques. By the end of the certification, you will have the core skills needed to use Excel efficiently for various professional data tasks.

Requirements

This certification consists of three progressive courses: Introduction to Excel, Intermediate Applications of Excel, and Advanced Applications of Excel. Completion of all three courses results in the awarding of the certification and its accompanying badge, which can be displayed in your email signature and on LinkedIn.

Note: Introduction to Excel progresses quickly beyond basic data entry into creating formulas and functions. Review the course description before enrolling in Intermediate Applications of Excel.

Schedule

Courses are offered monthly and can be taken online in a synchronous format or in person at our training center in Des Peres, St. Louis County, Missouri. Employers and job centers may request offsite training. Contact info@skillslab.umsl.edu for more details.

Pathways

This certification counts toward 19.5 hours of required coursework for the following UMSL Chancellor’s Certificates: Excel and Business Applications Certifications. Each course provides 0.65 CEUs.

Industry-Recognized Exam

This program prepares you for the Microsoft Excel Expert (Microsoft 365 Apps) Exam, administered at the University of Missouri–St. Louis testing center. Additional information is available upon request.
